This past weekend saw the top four teams in the Debonairs Pizza Cup (for Black Ops 4) battling it out to secure the top spot and the lion’s share of the prize pool.

The four teams had made it through the first weekend’s main bracket play (while dodging the always threatening load-shedding) to play out the drama to a live stream audience.

Over the course of around six hours, Bravado GamingEnergy EsportsKrypto Gaming and White Rabbit Gaming gave the viewers a real showcase of local Call of Duty. Matches were generally close-run affairs with a number of thrilling comebacks and plays. If you missed the live stream, you can catch the action in the videos-on-demand on our YouTube channel (please note that due to internet issues on the night, some of the audio is out of sync).

LOSER’S BRACKET SEMI FINAL

Krytpo Gaming and Energy Esports faced off in the first of the evening’s matches and was a real humdinger. The first Hardpoint saw Krypto come from behind to clinch the map 250-245. This set the tone for things to come, as Search and Destroy went 11 rounds in the way of Energy.

Krypto edged ahead after a 3-2 win in Control, with Energy taking the next Hardpoint to even things up in the series. Another Search and Destroy thriller eventually saw Energy take things 6-4 to secure the series and move to the Loser’s Bracket Final. For Krypto, their run was over but not without winning over a series of supporters.

WINNER’S BRACKET FINAL

Bravado Gaming and White Rabbit Gaming ensured that the frantic pace from the first game continued as the Hardpoint went to White Rabbit by a slender six points.

The tournament favourites (based on midweek public votes) were Bravado, and they showed the mettle by securing the next two maps – SnD on Frequency 6-5 and Control 3-0. After the earlier Hardpoint, some were expecting White Rabbit to level the series, but in another pulsating map, the team in blue took things 250-232 to await their opponents in the Grand Final.

LOSER’S BRACKET FINAL

The first map between Energy Esports and White Rabbit Gaming saw the first map appear one-sided in the evening. White Rabbit dominated the Hardpoint with an over 200-point win.

Things returned back to normal with another 11-round SnD that went the way of Energy, followed by a 5-round Control that went to White Rabbit.

The second Hardpoint of the series turned out to be a lot closer than the one-sided first excursion was. However, the win still went the way of White Rabbit 250-231 to see them secure the slot against Bravado in the Grand Final.

GRAND FINAL

The last match of the day proved to be the most one-sided one unfortunately. Bravado Gaming had clearly spent some time refocusing after the Winner’s Bracket Final against White Rabbit Gaming.

Hardpoint went the way of the Bravado team 250-91. The next map – SnD on Frequency – was an even more dominant performance, as Bravado secured it 6-0.

With only one map needed, Bravado took Control on Gridlock to secure a 3-1 map win and a pretty comprehensive 3-0 series win.
